R.A. “Bucky” Thomas was born in Dothan, Alabama. Bucky was the first in his family to attend and graduate college. Bucky attended Samford University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education. During his time at Samford, Bucky was the parliamentarian for the Student Government Association and served as chaplain for his fraternity Pi Kappa Phi. Bucky attended law school at Jones School of Law. While at Jones Law School, Bucky was on the winning team for the J. Greg Allen trial competition out of nine teams. Bucky was also selected as Best Advocate out of 18 participants. He further participated in the school’s trial competition team that placed third in a regional competition that included several law schools from the Southeastern region.
After graduating law school Bucky pursued his love for trial work with the law firm of Greene and Phillips. Bucky was the lead attorney in the criminal defense division of the firm and after only four months of practice won his first jury trial in an assault second felony case. After successful jury trials defending criminal defendants, Bucky was moved to the civil trial division at Greene and Phillips where he enjoyed representing injured persons in the pre-trial and trial stage of litigation.
After four years with Greene and Phillips, Bucky opened a law office with his wife Carla Thomas in the pursuit of representing individuals charged with municipal, State, Federal, misdemeanor and felony offenses. Bucky extended his practice to include divorces, custody, and child support.
Bucky’s passion for trial advocacy can be seen in the many cases he has tried involving charges of assault, rape, domestic violence, manslaughter, burglary, robbery, menacing, shooting into an occupied vehicle/dwelling, murder, capital murder, and many other criminal offenses. Bucky has represented victims of car collisions in civil cases.
